Asthma / COPD Management Programs and Resources

Asthma/Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Management Program

Our comprehensive Asthma/COPD Management Program is designed to help you understand and manage your asthma and/or COPD. Our program includes:
  • Education: Learn current asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) facts, causes of asthma and COPD, how to properly use a peak flow meter and how to take your medications correctly to control your symptoms;

  • Disease Management: Work with a nurse practitioner to closely monitor your progress and improve control of your asthma or COPD; and

  • Facilitated Specialist Referral: Get assistance in obtaining a referral to an asthma specialist or pulmonary rehabilitation, if necessary.

Better Breathers Club - FREE
A support group for individuals living with persistent breathing problems. A new topic is presented monthly. These meetings are supported by the American Lung Association and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital. First Monday of every month. Conference room A to B at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It Could Be Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Prevention, Identification and Treatment
Join the medical director of the Center for Advanced Lung Therapies for a discussion focused on early identification of lung disease and areas for intervention. Free lung function screening will be available after the presentation. Monday, March 22, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

No Ifs, Ands, or Butts Program
this intensive course includes techniques to manage withdrawal symptoms and the physical and psychological side effects. It will focus on traditional skills and strategies, along with holistic approaches such as hypnosis, acupressure and mindfulness to cope with the loss of the smoking habit. Participants have the opportunity for personal medical consultations and supervision. Five-week program, six classes total. Initial one-on-one consultation with a therapist is required. Fee: $50. Five Tuesdays, 5:30 to 7 p.m. (plus one class on Thursday of the fourth week) Start dates: Tuesday, Jan.12, Tuesday, March 9, Tuesday, May 11 at 2100 Webster Street, Suite 106.
