Brown & Toland donates $20,246 to Partners In Health
Feb. 17. 2010

Brown & Toland Physicians has donated a total of $20,246 to the Partners In Health (PIH) Haiti Earthquake Fund.

"Employees donated generously to this effort. We are so pleased to be able to make this contribution," said Gloria Austin, Brown & Toland Chief Executive Officer.

The day following the disaster, Austin encouraged employees to give generously and announced that Brown & Toland would match one dollar for every dollar they donated, up to $10,000. The 250 employees of Brown & Toland responded, in a big way. "We were blown away by the response," said Fiona Wilson, M.D., Brown & Toland's Chief Quality Officer, who has been involved with Partners In Health since its inception nearly 25 years ago. "I am so impressed and humbled by the kindness and generosity of our employees."

"Our employees are really the heart of this organization," added Austin. "Supporting an organization with equally dedicated employees and volunteers such as Partners In Health felt like the right thing to do."

Brown & Toland employees have generously donated nearly $4,000 to help victims of the Port-au-Prince earthquake.

With an offer to match up to $10,000 in donations, Brown & Toland is on track to give more than $8,000 in relief to Partners in Health, an organization of nurses and physicians who have been dedicated to serving the poor in Haiti for 25 years.

"We pledged our support to Partners in Health last week to help the people of Haiti," said CEO Gloria Austin. "This is a wonderful humanitarian effort."

Brown & Toland is matching up to $10,000 in employee donations to the Partners In Health (PIH) Haiti Earthquake Fund, for a collective total donation of up to $20,000.

"We have all watched the results of the devastating earthquake in Haiti with heartfelt anguish," said Gloria Austin, Brown & Toland's Chief Executive Officer. "We are encouraging our employees to open their hearts to help the people of Haiti, to generate meaningful support."

Fiona Wilson, M.D., Brown & Toland's Chief Quality Officer, first became involved with Partners In Health nearly 25 years ago. "It began as a clinic in Haiti, founded by a medical school classmate of mine, and has grown into a global health organization that serves roughly 2.5 million people worldwide," said Wilson. The effort in Haiti will leverage the skills of more than 120 doctors and nearly 500 nurses and nursing assistants.

This humanitarian effort resonates with Brown & Toland. "Many of our employees expressed interest in supporting relief efforts in Haiti," Austin said. "Dr. Wilson's involvement with Partners In Health gave us an outlet to express our deepest sympathy to those affected by this tragedy. It is the right thing to do."

Brown & Toland's 250 employees have supported a number of relief efforts in the past as well, donating to help the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Over the past few years, Brown & Toland employees have given more than $100,000 to the American Heart Association to support the fight against heart disease.
